What is Quinoa?

Quinoa, also known as the “gold of the Incas,” has been used as a primary food source in South America for four thousand years. The Incas called it the “mother of all grains,” and used it to increase the energy and stamina of their mighty warriors. Quinoa only reached “superfood” status in the western world over the last few years, despite all of its incredible health benefits.

Benefits of Quinoa

Quinoa is full of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat, omega-3 fatty acids, flavonoids, lysine and essential minerals including magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium, manganese and zinc. This low-glycemic-index super-grain is one of the most protein-rich foods on earth, and contains almost twice as much fiber as most whole grains, giving it powerful health benefits:

  • Helps lower cholesterol
  • Improves metabolic health
