What is Stevia Leaf?
The stevia plant is a small herb with extraordinary sweetening properties. Although the Guarani tribe and other indigenous cultures in South America had already been using stevia to sweeten herbal teas for centuries, the “discovery” of the plant in the late 19th century is credited to Dr. Moises Bertoni, an Italian agriculturalist. After Bertoni introduced stevia to popular culture, it was not long before plantations sprung up and began growing large quantities of the herb for distribution.
