Maca Root

What is Maca?

Maca root is a tuberous vegetable native to the Peruvian Andes Mountain range and has the highest growing altitude in the world! The use of maca root dates back to 3800 BC, when indigenous Peruvian cultivated it to use as food and medicine. In the mid-1500s, Spanish explorer Captain de Soto received a gift of maca from the Indians. There are three types of maca – yellow, black and red – all with incredible health properties.

Benefits of Maca

Maca root contains high quantities of amino acids, carbohydrates, minerals (including zinc, magnesium and iron) as well as vitamins (B1, B2, B12, C and E). The root is thought to promote increased sex drive in women and treat sexual dysfunction in men, in addition to other important benefits:

  • Increases fertility in women
  • Aides the endocrine system
  • Boosts energy levels
  • Controls blood glucose levels
